Opportunities for students
FINTRAC offers dynamic and rewarding student opportunities. Join our organization to make a difference in keeping the Canadian economy secure while building connections that will last beyond your student years!
Students are vital contributors to our organization, and we are proud to have students represent around 10 percent of our workforce. We offer work terms that value innovation, encourage collaboration, and provide meaningful career experience.
For more information on our workplace, including our flexible-by-design approach and our commitment to diversity, see the Life at FINTRAC page.
Recruitment process
While most student opportunities are based out of our Ottawa headquarters, we often have student positions in our regional offices as well (Montréal, Toronto, or Vancouver). When recruiting full-time students at post-secondary institutions across Canada, we use two main avenues:
- CO-OP Education Programs: For more information on how to find a placement, visit the PSC website.
- Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP): For more information about FSWEP, visit the PSC website.
Students applying for FINTRAC opportunities must be Canadian citizens and must meet FINTRAC’s security and suitability requirements in order to be considered for employment.
Student experience
We strive to provide students an unforgettable and invaluable experience which is why we are proud to offer the following initiatives:
- Student welcome event – We offer an annual, centre-wide student welcome event for summer students. For fall and winter students, we offer sector specific onboarding sessions that provide students with more intimate workshops to meet their peers and learn about the Centre.
- Student champion initiative – At FINTRAC, we have a Student Champion team who are responsible to lead and organize a variety of activities for students, such as:
- Student bilateral: Provides students with the opportunity to meet and be welcomed by our Student Champion. At this meeting, students can ask questions, discuss their views on meaningful work, and provide feedback on their student experience thus far.
- Student social committee: Allows students across the Centre to meet and socialize in a safe space that is entirely dedicated to students.
- Student lounge events: Provides students with the opportunity to learn more about the agency and related external partners, expand their professional network, and receive mentorship from guest speakers.
- Student award – Launched in 2021, this award recognizes an outstanding student who has displayed qualities such as optimism, inspiration, and collaboration, to name a few.
